Herbal remedies have been around for centuries. They have been used to treat all sorts of things and traditionally being home made, have been subject to all sorts of old wives tales and even mystical legend. . . . . . . . . . .
However through that, some constant results seem to be being achieved. After all, a lot of prescribed medicines are also derived from plant extracts just the same. There have even been some medical trials on herbal remedies (usually in the USA and Germany) and these continue today.
Of course this is part of the problem. Herbal aids (we're not legally allowed to call it a medicine anyway, even if it was) do not come under the medical establishments jurisdiction. This means that there is no real quality control or regulation in the herbal industry. That is why "Doctor Herb .co.uk" has gone to great lengths to ensure a supply which is pure, consistent and reliable. Although Grannies home brewed remedy may be wonderful, we prefer a more reliable, scientific & clinical approach, which offers more dependability and certainty. After all we're expecting you to swallow these things! And even some mushrooms are poisonous!
"We are what we eat" is a common saying, and with common sense we can see that is true. We know that fruit and vegetables are good for us. We know we need fibre. We know we should eat less fat (and exercise more - even if only walking). Meantime organic food produce is fast becoming the preferred method of food production, avoiding the impact of man made chemicals and their potential side effects. And the side effects of many prescribed medicines (particularly anti-depressants) is quite well documented.
Herbal Aids are natural remedies, derived from plant, tree or root extracts, and supplied in tablet form for convenience. Chinese medicine is probably the leader in "documenting" such natural treatments, although they tend to offer infusions (home brewed teas).
Even though herbal aids are our business, at Doctor Herb we don't want you to become dependent on anything. The objective has to be to get your mind and body to cope naturally with your lifestyle. We see herbal aids as a short term boost to achieving that. Herbal aids are NOT daily vitamin supplements. Herbal aids can be quite potent and as such, should be treated with respect.
If you feel yourself becoming dependent on "anything", you should seek medical advice and consider changing your lifestyle and environment. If you are suffering because of your job, an uncomfortable old bed, a friend who constantly winds you up, or your living conditions - what do you think the correct solution is?! We're not saying it is easy - we are just saying that unless you "try" to work towards a solution, it certainly won't happen on it's own.
Herbal aids have much less side effects than alcohol, drugs, smoking and even some prescribed medicines. But do treat them with respect. They are not vitamin supplements.
We hope that our herbal aids help you on your way.
May you find what you're looking for.
Q1) Are herbal aids legal?
A1) Herbal aids are totally legal in the UK. They do not come under medical jurisdiction either.
Q2) Are herbal aids addictive?
A2) There is no evidence that we know of that herbal aids are "chemically" addictive. Of course some individuals can become "emotionally" dependent on "anything" which they perceive makes them feel "better" - alcohol, chocolate and drugs, cases in point. If you follow our dosage advice, you should encounter no problems at all.
Q3) Are herbal aids pure?
A3) No not all aids are! That's why at Doctor Herb .co.uk we have gone to great lengths to ensure the quality and consistency of the products we source.
Q4) Will herbal aids work?
A4) The specific results depend on the individual and several complex factors. The majority of people (80%+), even in clinical trials, do feel a definite benefit.
Q5) Are there any side effects for herbal aids?
A5) Not normally. In rare cases there can be an allergic reaction, as there can with most things (penicillin, wheat, cat hairs, etc.). With some herbs there can be a slight increased toilet activity in the first 24 hours, but only in some cases. This is often the reaction of your body being helped to sort itself out. As with anything you eat or drink, you should exercise some caution.
Q6) How long before I feel the benefit and how long should I continue?
A6) The full benefit can take up to 14 days to be achieved. That's why we package our herbal aids in these quantities. We also think a 14 day course is long enough and then you should take at least a 7 day break. This will give your body time to re-balance itself naturally. If after that, you still feel the need for a boost, you can take another 14 day course. If you feel you have a greater reliance than this, you should seek medical advice and consider changing your lifestyle or environment.
We don't see herbal aids as a vitamin supplement. They can be quite potent and as such, should be treated with respect.
Q7) Should I seek medical advice before taking or stopping a herbal aid course?
A7) If you have any doubt at all, why not? If you are on any prescribed medicines, or anything to do with pregnancy (before, during, or after), then you should check with a doctor. With some medicines, you may need to stop your herbal course more slowly for instance. If in any doubt, check!
Q8) Are herbal aids suitable for vegetarians?
A8) Yes. They contains no gluten or lactose, not even in the tablet shell.
|Aloe Vera||Echinacea||Primrose Oil||Ginkgo Biloba||Kava Kava||Korean Ginseng||St John's Wort|
|Immune System Boost||yes|
|Cold and flu||yes|
- Immune system booster.
Aloe Vera is considered to be a potent immune-enhancing drug. It works by stimulating the release of natural substances in the body that stimulate the immune system and thus can help with various immune conditions.
The Ancient Egyptians used Aloe to treat disease and Hypocrites wrote about its benefits.
- cold and flus, anti inflammatory. ear infections, and yeast infections (Candida albicans).
Echinacea works as an anti-inflammatory and anti-viral by boosting the immune system and is mainly taken as a traditional remedy for colds. flu and other infections.
A clinical study of 180 male and female patients between the age of eighteen and sixty found that Echinacea had a significant effect in relieving the symptoms and duration of colds and flu like infections. It has also been used to treat ear infections and yeast infections (Candida albicans).
- PMS (Pre-menstrual Syndrome), acne arthritis, skin problems
The GLA in Evening Primrose Oil is an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid that is converted into prostaglandin. Studies have shown that it is effective in treating the symptoms of PMS such as irritability, headaches, breast tenderness and bloating.
Evening Primrose Oil has also been suggested for acne (especially in teenagers), arthritis, fibromyalgia (a condition mainly experienced by women characterised by unspecified aches and pains and often accompanied by fatigue, similar to ME), and some skin problems including Psoriasis and Eczema. Evening Primrose Oil is mainly used to treat Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS).
- circulation. bronchitis, asthma and coughs
Ginkgo may be the answer for low energy, mental fatigue, cold hands and feet,
Ginkgo Biloba has been suggested for poor blood circulation to the feet and hands as well as for bronchitis, asthma and coughs.
- unwind, stress, insomnia
Kava Kava has been suggested for anxiety, stress and insomnia.
Within an hour of taking this supplement, most people tend to experience a feeling of peace and contentment. Unlike alcohol and other sedatives, Kava does not produce a hangover the following morning.
- stamina boost, stress, aphrodisiac, ME
Korean Ginseng has both short and long term benefits.
In short term use, it can improve stamina and concentration and increase resistance to stress. Some have even claimed that it works well as an aphrodisiac!
In long term use, it is said to improve well being and memory, especially in old age.
As Ginseng is reputed to normalise impaired immune function, Ginseng may help with ME.
- depression, PMS, sleep disorder
One of the most controversial herbs around, St John's Wort has been suggested to be as an effective treatment against depression as Prozac, but without as many side effects. Clinical trials are continuing and nothing has been truly confirmed. However it is undoubtedly a "potent" herb and as such should be treated with respect.
Depression is a very complicated condition and no one fully understands it. If you have acute depression you should seek medical advice, on using ST John's Wort itself and on other possible cures or treatments (i.e. counselling).
As a self cure for mild depression, St John's Wort may certainly help you. You should be wary of becoming emotionally dependent on it and you should certainly have periods on (14 days) and off (7 days) of it. This will ensure it retains its maximum benefit (as it tends to build-up in the body) and that you don't become dependent upon it.
You should view it as a boost through a bad period and then come off of it to cope normally.
St Johns Wort has also been suggested to treat anxiety, sleep disorders, and PMS.
